Pair of Louis XVI Piacenza bedside tables measuring 73 x 55 x 35 cm in walnut, burr walnut and boxwood. The main characteristics of a pair of Louis XVI bedside tables are a straight line, simpler, more sober and geometric, inspired by Greek-Roman classicism; The composure of the geometric shapes was therefore opposed to the capricious and bizarre, to the complex volutes of the rococo. Simpler and more sober, but always of refined execution, in the minute details, the Louis XVI Style is characteristic for the geometric rigor of the ornament and for the clarity of the volumes of the furniture. This pair, veneered and inlaid in walnut and burr walnut, dates from the end of the 18th century. First of all, we can notice an important structural and decorative elegance, the legs frontally and laterally are all veneered in walnut. In the two central drawers, the decoration underlines the subdivision, in a succession of rectangular frames with a continuous and undulating floral inlay inside them. The square structure of this piece of furniture can be seen in the well-proportioned legs in pyramid legs and in the pilasters of a lighter shade.
