Period: 18th century
SOLD Oil on canvas painting, measuring 60 x 50 cm without frame and 73 x 62 cm with frame, depicting a noble man by the painter Nicola Maria Rossi (Naples 1690 - 1758). Neapolitan painter, he entered the workshop of Francesco Solimena in 1706. Initially, he adhered so faithfully to the style of the master that his works were mistaken for works by Solimena himself, as De Dominici tells us in his Lives of Neapolitan painters, sculptors and architects; a substantial part of his production is still visible today in Neapolitan churches. In this painting, Rossi still shows his strong Solimena derivation, primarily in the realization of the portrait of the nobleman for its gravity and solemnity, both from a physiognomic and anatomical point of view. Compared to the master, however, Rossi uses a more marked line and sharper, darker colors. The paintings and art objects published here are my exclusive property and are therefore always available to be viewed in person, by appointment, at my exhibition venues located in Sanremo and Brescia. The work, like all our objects, is sold accompanied by a FIMA photographic certificate of authenticity and lawful origin; this document identifies the object, adding value to the item.
