Period: 18th century
SOLD Comasco chest of drawers, centrally and laterally curved in walnut with inlays in various woods from the mid-18th century. The main decorative motifs of ribbons and flowers constitute a further independence from the simpler and more linear Lombard models of the time. Here, the attachment to the traditions of the early eighteenth century is very marked, we can note in the cut of the raised and curved feet and in the rocaille frieze that borders the arched apron, as well as in the pronounced movement, an elegant, refined, and truly sophisticated Louis XV style. The technique of inlaying with light boxwood on walnut is a typically Comasco peculiarity. Significant is also the consonance of these types of decorations that develop with a large design, involving the entire front, sides, and top of the furniture with decorative methodologies in some respects similar to those of the Piacenza chests of drawers. The fact remains that this chest of drawers, centrally and laterally curved, with a refined and constant decorative inlay, measuring 120 x 90 x 60 cm, is a great example of 18th-century Italian cabinetmaking.
