Period: First half of the 18th century
SOLD Curious pair of Lombard mirrors measuring 38 x 26 cm from the first half of the 18th century, in carved walnut wood, sculpted and gilded with original 18th-century mercury mirrors. The Baroque period is a style particularly suited to the creation of mirrors, as objects with a simple structure: a carving rich in relief decorations is the best and most effective way to enhance it. This beautiful pair is an eloquent demonstration. The mirror part is also perfectly intact, they are both mercury mirrors; in fact, it appears to be the original mirror of the mirror as evidenced by the morphology of the stains that have matured over the centuries of life. The bevels are typically eighteenth-century in technique and quality. The representation of these volutes, so strong and lively, built in one go with a truly imposing but at the same time graceful and snappy constructive force, is particularly impactful. All the glass parts are healthy. The state of conservation, taking into account the fragility and the age of the object, is fantastic. The Lombard models, always in the forefront in the world, find fame and success thanks to their lightness and in these always rich and imaginative forms that stand out for the robust carving but with a truly fine and exuberant line, where the decorative repertoire from the pompous carving and the marked naturalistic intonation on the imaginative suggestions reaches its culmination with an elegance and sobriety able to create a right and elegant mix. The work, like all our objects, is sold accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and lawful origin with photographs; this document identifies the object bringing added value to the article.
