Period: 18th century
SOLD Impressive drop-front desk from the Papal State from the first half of the 18th century. Walnut veneered with maple fillets, measuring 110 x 120 x 70 cm in maximum depth. Interesting drop-front desk with a double central movement both centrally and laterally and on the lid, shaped panels with scrolls delimited by small but constant and harmonious fillets that highlight the color thanks to the skillful use of maple. Noteworthy details for the construction of the furniture are the large carved corbel feet which usually give the furniture that feeling of grandeur and regality. On the lid, centrally, inside the largest fillet, the symbol of the Papal State is clearly and distinctly present. The sides are very elegant with a pilaster above the feet with a fillet that reaches to the top, while in the middle of the side we find an ebonized frame where inside there are numerous maple fillets that form various geometric shapes, a detail that denotes the harmony and the overall design of the furniture itself. Inside we find furniture always veneered in walnut with four walnut side drawers with small fillets and a large and elaborate central structure, while the inside of the drop-front desk is all in chestnut. Finally, the drop-leaf, superimposed on a small drawer below, whose separation from the lower part is marked by an overhanging ebonized strip, opens directly into this small drawer. The work, like all our objects, is sold accompanied by a photographic Fima certificate of authenticity and legitimate origin; this document identifies the object, adding value to the item.
