Period: 18th century
Sold. The bow-front chest of drawers can be considered a typical model of Tuscan cabinet making from the mid-18th century. The slightly convex front gives rise to the name 'bow-front,' but this is not a purely Tuscan characteristic; instead, the edge of the top and the shape of the foot are. The front is divided into two large drawers and one small drawer, veneered in walnut burr with cherry wood fillets. The sides are very delicate and are moved, opening towards the bottom in an almost concave shape, imprinting an arched movement on the edge that ends in the legs, pushing them outwards in the act of curving. The wooden top in walnut and walnut burr follows the movement of the piece of furniture made with end grain wood. The legs are high, curved, connected by a rounded and slightly pronounced smooth molding. The inside of this piece of furniture is made of poplar.
