Sold In the 17th century, chairs and armchairs with panels began to be built with some embellishments such as shaped or turned front legs and armrest supports. The carving of the wood and panels becomes more vigorous with curls or volutes and crumpled leaves. These two armchairs, made of carved walnut wood, with a high rectangular back, rigid and slightly inclined, moved only at the top by a slight curvature, have two guides completely covered by the thin padding and are the extension of the rear legs, turned into bobbin and delimited by a die at the ends like the front ones to which they are connected by a turned H-shaped crosspiece. The two front legs are also joined by two superimposed crosspieces also turned; all the legs have onion feet and the seat band is completely covered by the fabric that covers the padding. The structural and decorative characteristics of this piece of furniture reveal the typical Venetian influence; this is evident from the sculptural exuberance mitigated by a greater moderation, typically Lombard, in the movement of the armrests, very harmonious and delicate, in the decoration of the crosspieces and in the shape of the back slightly inclined in order to give the seated person dignity and importance in addition to the necessary comfort. These two armchairs are certainly for a representative living room, in fact their size and elegance express the aulic and imposing manner typical of the importance they had to give to the family, very dissimilar from those smaller and less proportioned armchairs that we find for the more intimate and familiar environments.
