Venetian Louis XV slant-front desk from the 1700s - Sold
Period: 18th century
Measures H x L x P
Sold Venetian walnut and walnut root slant-front desk with cherry wood fillets measuring 106 x 126 x 60 cm deep, from the mid-18th century, centrally curved, on the sides and with a truly curved and elegant interior. This piece of furniture is a prestigious model of the typical Venetian production of curved slant-front desks which stood out throughout the Veneto region for the creativity and imagination of its cabinetmakers. The production of these elements, although limited to a restricted area, represents a milestone in the evolution of the Venetian tradition. The Venetian shape is evident, as is the unmistakable trait of regional corporality modulated into highly harmonious forms in the constricted movement caused by the waist that separates the drawers from the upper part; this recovery tends to accentuate the sense of proportions with a double frame and double movement. The side part with its marvelous movement gives elegance and refinement to the piece of furniture, but at the same time it accentuates its stability and attenuates its proportions. The decoration is sober and remains anchored to the Venetian tradition with walnut and walnut root as protagonists, ready to give warmth and color to the piece of furniture; praise certainly goes to those who built the interior of the piece of furniture in walnut with a truly genuine and sober movement in the drawers together with the central castle, all characteristics that give uniqueness to the piece of furniture and, as far as I am concerned, magic capable of releasing love towards those who look at it. This piece of furniture, still in its original patina and in excellent condition, comes from a private home. The paintings and works of art published here are my exclusive property and consequently are always available to be viewed in person, by appointment, at my exhibition venues located in Sanremo and Brescia.
