Brescian Louis XV Chest of Drawers
Period: First half of the 18th century
Price: € 13.000
Measures H x L x P
Rare Louis XV chest of drawers from Brescia in walnut, walnut burl, decorated with threads, curved centrally with high legs, measuring 90 x 116 x 58 cm. This beautiful chest of drawers with 3 drawers, curved centrally and slightly bombe on the sides, rests on rather slender curved legs, almost in a "cabriole" style, which connect to the apron with an elegantly curved outline on the front and sides. In the three drawers, the decoration consists solely of the noble Ferrara walnut burl and threads, as well as a movement of great refinement and value, with impressive head wood at the two extremities of the chest of drawers, guaranteeing an elegant piece of furniture of great value in terms of materials and cabinetmaking. Splendid example for the refined Brescian conception and execution; the usual attempt to approach the elegant Venetian forms leaves unaltered the Lombard character of opulent realization with warm and colorful walnut burl. The character is also underlined by the marked tones of the handles and the absolutely original chiseled bronze hardware, as well as by the proportions that are kept harmonious in the various curves of the sides and the front. As mentioned previously, the rounding of the two front edges into small columns is very fine.
